How much does an electrician lead cost on Google Ads?

Cost per lead (CPL) is only published by a few neutral sources, and almost all of them cover the US.

LocaliQ also reports a 9.08% conversion rate and a 5.15% click-through rate for electrician campaigns. That conversion rate is higher than LocaliQ’s figures for plumbing (7.63%), HVAC, roofing or landscaping, which is why electricians pay less per lead than plumbers in this study even though their clicks cost more. The Local Services Ads figure rests on only 21 accounts, so the source itself calls it directional. In the same sample, 34% of electrical LSA leads booked a job.

The Canadian figure is a compilation: most of the studies behind it are US studies converted to Canadian dollars. For Australia, the UK, New Zealand and Ireland we couldn’t find a neutral, published cost-per-lead figure for electricians. Figures quoted for those countries are usually one agency’s estimate, or a model that divides a click price by an assumed conversion rate.

Are Local Services Ads cheaper for electricians?

Usually per lead, where they’re available. Local Services Ads charge per lead rather than per click, and run in the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland but not in Australia or New Zealand. We compare the two in Local Services Ads vs Search Ads for electricians.

How do I estimate my own monthly cost?

Work backwards from the leads you want:

  1. If you have a cost per lead (US): monthly ad spend = leads wanted × cost per lead. At LocaliQ’s US median of US$93.69, 20 leads a month needs about US$1,874 of ad spend.
  2. If you only have a click price (everywhere else): monthly ad spend = leads wanted ÷ conversion rate × cost per click. As an illustration only: at LocaliQ’s US conversion rate of 9.08% (no other country publishes one), 20 leads needs about 220 clicks. At Sydney’s Keyword Planner median of A$35.02, that’s about A$7,700. Because Keyword Planner prices the most contested searches, treat that as a ceiling, not a forecast.
  3. Set the daily budget at the monthly figure ÷ 30.4. Google can spend up to twice the daily budget on a busy day, but won’t charge more than 30.4 times it in a month (Google Ads Help).

The full calculator tables, by trade and city, are in how much should a plumber or trades business spend on Google Ads. Management is on top of ad spend. With PPC Fitter it’s first 2 months free, then 10% of combined Google + Meta ad spend or US$500/month, whichever is greater, with no lock-in and tools included (pricing).

How can an electrician pay less per lead?

  1. Split emergency, EV charger, switchboard and rewiring work into separate campaigns, each with its own budget.
  2. Add negative keywords for jobs, courses, DIY and parts from day one. Our negative keyword list for trades has an electrician section.
  3. Target only the suburbs or zip codes you serve, and choose Google’s “Presence” location option.
  4. Track calls and forms as conversions, so Google optimises for leads, not clicks.
  5. Compare Local Services Ads where they’re offered.
