Short answer: hipages can be worth it if the jobs you win produce enough contribution to cover the subscription, top-ups and quoting time; it is not automatically cheaper or worse than Google Ads. The official Starter marketplace plan is A$139 plus GST per month with 155 credits, while lead credit requirements vary and the standard contract starts with six months before renewing for 12 months. Compare it with Google Ads and local SEO using actual qualified enquiries and won jobs, not credits, clicks or profile views.

What does hipages cost in November 2026?

The official membership-costs page displays the following monthly marketplace packages. These are Australian-dollar prices excluding GST, not PPC Fitter fees or a fixed price per lead.

hipages advertised monthly marketplace packages, checked 7 November 2026; prices exclude GST.
PlanMonthly subscriptionIncluded credits per monthDirectory postcodes
StarterA$139 + GST1551
AdvancedA$249 + GST3103
PremiumA$449 + GST5955
PlatinumA$649 + GST85010

The page states a six-month introductory term that automatically renews for a 12-month term, and a 5% discount on new 12-month subscriptions paid upfront. Monthly payment does not mean a month-to-month contract. It advertises a seven-day cooling-off period provided no leads have been accepted; confirm the applicable contract, renewal notice and cancellation rules in your package before signing. The A$29 plus GST Essentials package is described as job and business management, not the marketplace lead package: do not confuse it with Starter.

How much is a hipages lead, and are leads shared?

There is no universal dollar lead price on the official pages checked. hipages says credits depend on trade category, location, job size, supply and demand (lead-credit explanation). Its current examples show 31, 25 and 66 credits for jobs in three nearby suburbs; those are examples, not a quote for your work. One credit is not one lead, and a credit is not interchangeable with an Australian dollar.

The official FAQs say leads can normally be accepted by up to three businesses. They also describe special maximum-one-accept leads in limited categories and a waitlist process; do not interpret the general cap as permanent exclusivity. A customer may seek quotes outside the platform too.

Top-ups are available; the FAQs say top-up credits are valid for the current month only. We found no universal public top-up tariff or audited Australian booking rate on those pages. hipages says it does not take a percentage of job earnings; optional payment processing is a separate matter. The plan bundles directory and workflow features, so its whole subscription is not purely a per-lead charge.

What do the original Google Ads sources actually show?

Our existing cost guide cites multiple kinds of data; they must stay separate. The original US campaign study reports electrical contractors at US$12.18 per click and US$93.69 per lead, and plumbing at US$129.02 per lead. These are medians from 3,211 US home-services Search campaigns run 1 April 2024–21 March 2025 (LocaliQ methodology and tables). The source includes Google and Microsoft advertising; it is not a pure Google-only Australian dataset.

A separate US exact-keyword study estimates US$18.35 per click for “electrician” and US$25.79 for “electrician near me”, medians across 48 markets. Its higher-intent keyword set and estimated prices are not the same as a blended campaign’s realised CPC. It does not measure enquiries or jobs.

The Australian source credited above publishes A$35.02 for Sydney electrician clicks and A$26.99 for Melbourne, dated October 2026. It does not publish a click-to-enquiry rate or a booking rate on that page. Do not divide a hipages subscription by credits and compare that result with a Google CPC: one buys a bundle with lead access, the other one visit.

How can I tell whether hipages is worth it for my business?

  1. Ask for the offered package and current credit requirements for the categories and areas you actually want. Check renewal, rollover, top-up and cancellation terms in writing.
  2. Record accepted leads, duplicates or invalid-contact claims, contactable prospects, quotes, wins and paid jobs. Use the platform’s stated review process rather than assuming every non-win earns credits back.
  3. Count the full cash subscription and top-ups, including unused allowance. Add quoting and travel time for an operational comparison.
  4. Use contribution after labour, materials and other delivery costs, not gross invoice revenue, to decide how much you can afford to acquire a customer.
  5. Compare mature lead cohorts from the same trade, area and period. A marketplace quote for a renovation is not comparable with an urgent electrical repair enquiry.

Illustration only: assume a month’s package and top-ups cost A$300 excluding GST, ten accepted leads become two won jobs, and quoting labour costs A$100. Cash CPL is A$30, cash cost per won job is A$150, and acquisition cost including that labour is A$200 per won job. These are made-up arithmetic inputs to explain the method, not hipages averages or PPC Fitter client results. Use a consistent GST basis appropriate to your business.

When should I choose each option, or combine them?

hipages can work when its available jobs fit your skills, margin and travel area, and you have capacity to quote. Its included workflow tools may add value. It may be less suitable when the jobs offered do not fit or the contract outlasts the work you need. Evaluate your own results rather than anonymous success or failure stories.

Google Ads is worth testing when you want to choose the services you advertise and can track outcomes on your own website and phone. It is not an exclusive-customer guarantee, and expensive clicks can become expensive non-sales. Start with a service-specific landing page and irrelevant-search exclusions.

Keep an accurate profile and useful website whichever paid route you choose. Local SEO builds eligibility, relevance and credibility; no honest provider can promise the top three for every searcher. Our local SEO service page explains the work, and our agency checklist explains what to ask an ads provider. You can combine channels, but measure them separately and avoid double-counting the same customer.

Frequently asked questions

Is hipages worth it for an Australian trades business?

It can be if the contribution from won work covers the subscription, top-ups and time spent quoting. Track your own accepted leads, wins and paid jobs; the public price page does not establish a universal return.

How much is hipages membership in November 2026?

The official monthly marketplace packages are Starter A$139, Advanced A$249, Premium A$449 and Platinum A$649, each plus GST. Included monthly credits are 155, 310, 595 and 850 respectively.

Does one hipages credit buy one lead?

No. Lead credit requirements vary by trade, location, job size, supply and demand. Included credits are an allowance, not a promised number of enquiries or jobs.

Are hipages leads exclusive?

Normally up to three businesses can accept a lead. The official FAQs also describe limited maximum-one-accept leads and waitlist rules. A homeowner can still contact providers elsewhere.

Can I cancel hipages after one month?

Do not assume monthly billing means a monthly contract. The published standard starts with a six-month introductory term and renews for 12 months. Check your package and cancellation terms before joining.

Is Google Ads cheaper than hipages?

The verified sources do not establish an Australian winner. Google data here is mainly cost per click, while hipages sells a subscription with variable-credit lead access. Compare total cost per qualified enquiry and won job in your own business.

Should I use local SEO instead of paid leads?

Local SEO and an accurate Business Profile support unpaid discovery, but results and timing vary. Use them as a foundation, then decide whether paid Search or marketplace leads add profitable work you would not otherwise win.
